Tomihiro Tanaka
President of the Japanese branch of the Family Federation for World Peace and Unification, the body commonly known as the Unification Church, since 2017. After the Tokyo District Court ordered the church dissolved as a religious corporation in March 2025, he accused the government of fabricating damages and framed the order as a serious threat to religious freedom.
Tomihiro Tanaka has led the Family Federation's Japanese organization through the period of greatest legal scrutiny in its history: the post-2022 government investigations into its fundraising, the 2023 dissolution request, and the 2025 dissolution order and its appeals. He is the church's principal public voice in Japan, and the source of its religious-persecution framing of the dissolution.
